OUR HISTORY
Thies Family Locker is a testament to our strong local ties and dedication to providing only the finest quality of meats to our community. Before meat processing facilities were born, it was reliant on friends and family to assist each other with the butchering and processing of their livestock on the family farms. As meat lockers started to develop, the local ranchers had the ability to take their livestock into a professional facility, which gave them peace of mind and freed up valuable time for them. When presented with the opportunity in 2001, the original owner, John Thies, saw a chance to revive this business in the community. John had experience in a meat packing plant in the 1980s, which set him up ideally to buy the locker and operate it successfully. John’s dedication to providing only excellence in meat processing became apparent early on in his career, inspiring the same passion for the industry to his children, Jesse and Ethan. For over 20 years, John committed himself as a master of meat creations. John’s meat mastery skills also created a rooted family foundation to continue their passion.
In November of 2023, John’s youngest son, Ethan, and his wife, Ashley, purchased the family locker from John. Along with Ethan and Ashley, John’s oldest son, Jesse, continues to work full-time in the locker keeping this a family affair. We are so grateful that we can continue to keep these roots alive as a new era begins. We take pride in servicing the local communities and keeping the business thriving in Winside, NE, adding to the vitality of our small town.
Between the lifelong experiences Ethan has developed in the family meat locker business and construction industry, as well as Ashley’s history as a Registered Dietitian, they can provide a distinct perspective that other meat lockers may not have. The combination of both of their trades have enhanced their ability to excel in providing their clients with only the finest product to serve at the dinner table.
Thies Family Locker is more than a meat locker – it is the ability to provide friendships that are built on the foundation of trust, support, and comradery. Whether this is displayed by being available when livestock emergencies occur or our ability to customize every order to meet the expectations and needs of each of our customers, we PROMISE to continue to adapt to the industry changes that will keep up with the demands of the industry and deliver only the utmost quality every time.
